Nestled
in the southwest corner of Lackawanna County, with a population
of nearly 9,000, is the amazing town of Old Forge, PA. The community, being a majority of Italian
immigrants, underwent a transformation to meet the challenge of
the post WWII economic downturn in the coal industry and the transfer
of the garment industry to other locations around the World.
During the difficult period of the coal
mining days; the hard working miners of this tiny town would
climb out of the earth at night and go to the local taverns for
some down time. It
was there; that the wife’s and daughter’s of these
men would make their homemade dough on “rectangular baking
pans” and top it with fresh homegrown tomatoes and spice
from their gardens. This, being the original concept of Old
Forge Pizza.
After many years of dedicated effort,
the town has been very successful in transitioning into a highly
respected Mecca for Italian Cuisine and has attained the distinction
of being regarded as “The Pizza Capital of the World”
Over
the years, a tradition as sacred as High School Football on Friday
nights has resulted in an overwhelming influx of Valley residents
to partake in the post game ritual of, “Lets go to Old Forge
for Pizza.”
“OUR RESTAURANT ”
Keeping with the tradition of the
famous Pizza Makers of Old Forge, The Arcaro & Genell Family
assumed their business in 1962; which was the former Laurenzi’s
Restaurant. We are located at 443 South Main Street, Old Forge,
which is located in the “Pizza Capital of the World”. If
you come to Old Forge on a Friday night and just take a deep
breath when you get out of your car on Main Street, you’ll
know why Old Forge is considered the Pizza Capital of the World.
You can’t beat the atmosphere of our restaurant. It’s
a busy place with a laid-back attitude. You get that “family
feel” the minute you walk in the door. Everyone
seems to know each other; and if they don’t; they
probably will by the time they leave. From fine dining
entrees to Pizza and Clams………….you
can get it all at Arcaro & Genell and still wear your jeans!!
Arcaro & Genell is open 6 days a week; serving
lunch Monday through Friday at 11 am; featuring
daily specials with take-out available; and dinner Monday through
Saturday at 3. We also offer on and off site catering
services for any type of event with catering available in our
banquet facility, which accommodates up to 200 people. We
have catering available at the All Seasons Banquet Center for
larger groups, which is located in Moosic, Pennsylvania; and
also available at Mt. Carmel Parish Center in Pittston, Pennsylvania. Other
